What is in a customs record
A customs declaration typically includes the exporter and importer names, tax IDs, HS code, product description, country of origin and destination, declared customs value, CIF/FOB value, duties and taxes paid, and incoterms.
How importers use it
- Benchmark prices. Declared values reveal what competitors pay per unit for the same goods.
- Find suppliers and buyers. Named parties on each declaration are real trading counterparties.
- Estimate market size. Aggregate volumes show how big a product market is in each country.
